This Privacy Policy explains how SettleInn ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data when you use www.settleinn.co and related services (the "Service"). It is designed to align with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and applicable rules/notifications.

Privacy — Plain & Simple (Summary)

  • • We use Google Sign-In to verify your identity. We receive your name, email, and Google ID (never your password).
  • • We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers.
  • • Your data is used only to run SettleInn, improve search & recommendations, and prevent abuse.
  • • Your data stays within SettleInn and our recommendation systems; trusted processors act only on our instructions.
  • • You can request a copy, correction, or deletion of your data at any time: admin@settleinn.co.

1) Who We Are (Data Fiduciary)

SettleInn acts as the Data Fiduciary for personal data we process about you.

2) What Data We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide and improve the Service and to prevent misuse.

  • • Account & Identity (via Google Sign-In): Name, email address, Google account ID, and profile picture.
  • • Usage & Interaction: Search inputs, filters, saves, clicks, pages viewed, timestamps, device/browser/OS, IP address, and approximate city-level location.
  • • User-Provided Content: Notes, preferences, tags, feedback, and communications you send us.

3) Why We Process Your Data (Purposes & Lawful Bases)

  • • Account & Access: Register/sign you in with Google, maintain your session, manage your profile.
  • • Enhancing Search Experience: Personalize ranking and recommendations; remember preferences.
  • • Security & Abuse Prevention: Detect, investigate, and prevent spam, fraud, scraping, and other malicious activity.
  • • Service Performance & Analytics: Understand usage, improve features, fix bugs.
  • • Communications: Send essential service messages (e.g., login alerts, policy updates, property updates).
  • • Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws and lawful requests.

Processing generally relies on your consent (e.g., Google Sign-In) and/or legitimate uses necessary to provide the Service. You may withdraw consent at any time (see Section 9). Withdrawing consent for core features may limit your ability to use the Service.

4) Our Commitment to Privacy

  • • Your data stays within SettleInn and the SettleInn recommendation algorithms.
  • • We do not sell personal data and do not share it with advertisers.
  • • We share data only as described in Section 6 and under strict contracts.

5) Automated Recommendations

We use algorithms to personalize search and recommend listings based on your on-site interactions. We do not use third-party advertising profiles for personalization.

6) How We Share Data

  • • Service Providers / Data Processors: Hosting, authentication, security, analytics, and email delivery providers acting under our instructions and contracts.
  • • Legal & Compliance: Authorities or third parties if required by law, regulation, or court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • • Business Transfers: In a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may transfer subject to this Policy (or a successor policy at least as protective).

We do not permit processors to use your data for their own marketing.

7) Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use essential cookies for login/core features and functional/analytics cookies to improve the Service. You can control cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent sign-in or key features from working.

8) Your Rights (DPDP Act – India)

  • • Access: Know what personal data we process about you and how we use it.
  • • Correction/Updating: Request correction, completion, or updating of your personal data.
  • • Erasure: Request deletion when data is no longer necessary or consent is withdrawn (subject to legal retention).
  • • Consent Withdrawal: Withdraw consent for processing that relies on consent.
  • • Grievance Redressal: Email admin@settleinn.co.
  • • Nominate: Nominate another person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity, as per law.

To exercise your rights, contact us from your registered email and specify your request. We may verify your identity before acting.

9) Data Retention

  • • Usage logs & security data: retained up to 180–365 days unless needed longer for investigations or legal reasons.
  • • Backups: retained on a rolling basis (up to ~90 days) then securely purged.

We periodically review and minimize the data we hold.

10) Security Measures

We use reasonable and appropriate measures including HTTPS, encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege policies. No system is 100% secure. If a personal data breach likely to cause harm occurs, we will take steps required by law and notify you where mandated.

11) Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party sites (e.g. Google Maps, whatsapp, etc.) we do not control. This Policy does not apply to those sites. Review their privacy policies before use.

12) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, or legal requirements. We will post the updated Policy with a new "Last Updated" date. If changes materially affect your rights, we will provide additional notice (e.g., email or in-product).
